Six weeks ago I discovered that this website, Once Upon An Albatross..., and my author website got hacked by idiots (they're not hackers). I wasn't able to log into either website as the passwords got scrambled, and OUAA was redirected to a Russian website with a "check out my new blog" link. My apologies for any confusion.
I was forced to delete all web files and database records to be on the safe side. I did a fresh install of Joomla!, rechecked all the security settings and learned a few things that I didn't know the first time. I wish the idiots who did this will step forward so I can sue them for wasting my time. A writer should be writing, editing, and cleaning the toilets. Not mucking about trying to put together websites on short notice because he didn't apply the security releases and couldn't find a working backup.
Reconstructing the author website was easy. Until I become a big name author who can afford a fancy website designer, that website will always be barebone.
A barebone version of OUAA is now up. All the 2008 entries are here but the comments are lost. I'll be going through those entries to clean up the writing and re-tag them, and making other improvements where necessary. The next task is to convert nine years of content from the pre-Joomla website. Last February I wrote that this should only take a few months but that never happened since writing has become an all consuming passion. We'll see how far I get next year.
